This is a question that has no one specific answer, but the only proven fact of a recovery process, is it becomes possible, given that the individual will trust the process, and what’s trust the process? it’s putting in the work even if there’s lack of faith and doubt but still put in work and accepting the outcome.
People seeking recovery, come from different walks of life, backgrounds and different environments and how the react to problems and respond to solutions will differ which makes recovery differ in rates.
Someone might admit their substance abuse problem quickly and therefore automatically get the recovery process speeded up given that they put in the work, where else in many cases people suffering addiction have gotten extremely mentally affected by substance abuse that admission is a frightening thing to do and therefore Denial prevents the possibilities of recovery.

How to Choose a Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Johannesburg
22 October, 2021Articles, News
Whether you are looking to check yourself or a loved one into a rehabilitation centre, there are a number of factors to consider. With emotions running high and time being of the essence, choosing a drug rehab centre in Johannesburg can be daunting. Here are a few key aspects to look out for when making this important decision.
A Medical Detox Programme
The initial, physical part of getting clean and staying abstinent off drugs and alcohol, is often the hardest part. Depending on the type of drug that is being abused and the extent to which it is being used, every patient experiences detox differently. Some addicts and alcoholics experience extreme physical withdrawals while others struggle with what may feel like an intense mental battle. In every case, choosing a drug rehab centre in Johannesburg that has an extensive medical detox programme is key.
Trained and Experience Counsellors
In most cases, patients will be assigned to a specific counsellor who will provide guidance and therapeutic treatment on an individual level. When choosing a rehab, it may be useful to consult with the available counselling team and ask questions that will help to allay your fears and provide much-needed assurance that you are making the right decision.
Therapy Groups
An effective and reputable drug rehabilitation centre in Johannesburg will provide for a number of therapeutic groups as part of its treatment programme. These groups may be topical or open-ended. They are designed to help the addict or alcoholic to understand the pain that their addiction is causing themselves as well as those around them. Therapy groups are also important spaces in which the addict can feel free to express themselves and relate to people who understand what they are going through.
A Relapse-Prevention Programme
One very important part of treatment for drug addiction is the prevention of relapse. It is of the utmost importance for addicts to be prepared to face the real world and be assimilated back into life after treatment. A professional drug rehab in Johannesburg will provide recovering addicts with relapse-prevention programmes that include specific precautions, routines and commitments, to ensure that the addict’s recovery is sustained in the long-term.

When an individual is looking for help with their addiction, they usually seek out a recovery centre that offers a recovery programme suited to an individuals needs. A recovery programme usually starts off with a screening process followed by an assessment. Screening is the process by which the counsellor, the client review the current situation, symptoms, and other available information to determine the most appropriate course of action, given the client’s needs and characteristics and available resources within the community. Treatment centres may make use of the Jellinek Curve as an assessment tool to help members of the community understand addiction when they come for an assessment for themselves or their loved ones. The Jelinek Curve is a chart that describes the typical phases of alcoholism and recovery. Immediately, upon admission, where necessary, clients enter into a detox programme. Clients are given a medical detox programme under the supervision of the consulting physician. This can be anything from 3 to 7 days depending on the history of the patient. They are then declared medically fit to enter the programme once the physical side effects have subsided, they begin a process of understanding the mental side of what has led to their addiction in the first place.
Crossroads Recovery
Centre is a 12-step treatment facility that believes in a complete
individual treatment programme for each client. Clients are guided
through their programmes by an addiction counsellor. Treatment
planning should be part of a client’s recovery programme as a
collaborative process in which professionals and the client develop a
written document that identifies important treatment goals and
describes measurable, time-sensitive steps towards achieving those
goals.
At a minimum an individualized treatment plan addresses the identified substance use disorder(s), as well as issues related to treatment progress- including relationships with family and significant others, potential psychiatric conditions, employment, education, spirituality, health concerns, as well as social and legal needs.
Upon exit, clients are
assisted with the reintegration into society which is sometimes done
with the assistance of secondary care. Whilst in care, clients are
introduced to the Narcotics and Alcoholics Anonymous fellowships.
Crossroads offers a 28-day treatment programme or an 84-day
programme. Our programme is based on the Minnesota Model of
addictions treatment. This approach is typically characterized by a
thorough and ongoing assessment of all aspects of a client as well as
multi-modal therapeutic approaches, including group and individual
therapy, family education and support and other methods. A
multidisciplinary team of professionals’ plan and assist in the
treatment process for each client, tailoring it to their needs.
Specific treatment
programmes include welcome groups, didactic groups, recovery
coaching, occupational therapy, AA meetings, NA meetings, topic
groups, spirituality, resident house meetings and goal-setting.
Individual counselling is part of the process. This includes
one-on-one therapy, addiction counselling, spiritual counselling,
step-work counselling, trauma therapy, family counselling and
co-dependence counselling.
Most treatment
programmes make use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This is very
relevant for addiction treatment because it is behaviourally based,
and most addicts need a practical approach to dealing with their use.
The core element of any personal behaviour change is based on the
relationship between the client and either the personal counsellor or
the approach of the treatment centre.
Treatment facilities
focus on both long-term and short-term clients. Usually, clients will
come through the centre with short-term stays in mind, due to
finances. Long-term treatment is usually suggested as this will give
clients the best possible chance of recovering from their addiction
going forward.

Methcathinone , or “Cat” is classed as a stimulant. The most common side effects include increased respiration, elevated blood pressure and a heightened sense of awareness. Once it is used, the effects peak after about 15 to 30 minutes and can last for up to 3 hours. As in the case of other drugs, cat users find that over time, with increased usage, larger quantities of the drug are needed in order to maintain a “high”. It can be detected in your system from between 30 hours to 5 days.
Is cat addictive?
Questions around whether a drug is addictive or not, are often difficult to answer. For an addict who has the disease of addiction, coupled perhaps with a genetic predisposition towards addictive behaviour and a set of specific circumstances, any substance and indeed, behaviour, can be addictive. Cat, is a physically addictive substance. It has been compared to crack cocaine in terms of its addictiveness.
What are the long-term effects of cat?
There are a range of specific symptoms that become prevalent in addicts who use cat over a long period of time. These symptoms include changes in sleeping habits, irritability, lack of appetite and weight loss. There are many documented cases of cat users who have become severely depressed. Professionals have pointed to evidence that the use of this drug over a prolonged period can cause underlying mental health conditions to worsen. Methcathinone abuse has also been documented as a significant cause of parkinsonism among young patients in the Eastern European countries. There is evidence to link it to other movement disorders and neurological disorders. Experts tend to agree that not enough research has been done in terms of the long term effects of sustained cat usage.
